Finnish timber prices are surprisingly high

14-12-2023

According to a Finnish report, a shortage of timber due to fierce competition in the market has led to "alarmingly high" prices.

The report says that Finland's timber industry is already suffering from high costs, and that Finnish timber imports have fallen by more than 50 percent after a ban on timber imports from Russia increased competition in the Baltic market.

The report also says that Finnish attempts to replace Russian timber with imports from Sweden and the Baltic states have not worked, and that competition for timber remains fierce as more and more of it is used for energy consumption.
