China's total log imports fall in the first half of the year
According to China Customs, log imports in the first half of 2023 totalled 20.31 million cubic metres, valued at US$3.566 billion, down 9% from the same period in 2022, with the value of imports down 22%.
The average price of imported logs was US$176 (CIF) per cubic metre, down 10% from the same period in 2022.
Of the total log imports, coniferous log imports declined by 2% to 14.87 million cubic metres, accounting for 73% of the national total and up 5% from the same period in 2022.
The average price of imported coniferous logs declined 10 percent to $145 (CIF per cubic metre over the same period in 2022).
