China's birch log imports fall sharply

    Birch log imports fell sharply in the first eight months, according to Chinese customs statistics. The data showed that imports were 971,231

cubic metres, down 33% year-on-year; the value was US$130.73 million, down 36% year-on-year; and the average CIF price of birch logs was US$135 per cubic metre, down

5 per cent.


    The largest suppliers of China's birch log imports are Russia and Latvia, which accounted for 99.85 per cent of China's birch log imports.


    In the first eight months, 94.94 per cent of China's birch log imports came from Russia, 4.95 per cent from Latvia and the remainder from Estonia, the US, Belgium and Canada, the data showed.
